A Little Tax History

Our Founders believed that all laws should be written, so that the average person could read and understand them. Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution also set forth that there would be no direct uniform tax imposed on each person or in other words, no income tax. This was changed by the Sixteenth Amendment in 1913 as a way to shift the burden for the expenses for running the government to “the rich”; however, like all taxes they eventually affect everyone and once established are nearly impossible to abolish. For over ten years now I have been proposing a simplified tax to replace this complicated mess. One that will be understandable to most Americans, that the government calls the unified tax code. To every person and group that has asked for my opinion, or was willing to listen to what I have to offer, I am pleased that Our President is moving in what I know is the correct direction.
